About the program

Karinya Crisis Accommodation is a short-term home offering safety, support and new beginnings for young women aged 13–20 who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless.

We support up to six young women at a time, creating a space where they can pause, catch their breath and begin to rebuild. Karinya is not a long-term housing option, but a place to stabilise, feel safe and start planning what comes next.

What we offer goes far beyond a bed. At Karinya, we walk alongside each young person as they find their strength, reconnect with their goals and move toward a future that feels possible.

Our work is grounded in trauma-informed practice and a strong commitment to safeguarding. The safety, wellbeing and dignity of every young person is at the centre of everything we do. We take the time to understand each young woman’s story, recognising her strengths, her resilience and her potential.

Together, we focus on building confidence, developing life skills and strengthening connections with community, education and employment.

Where it is safe and appropriate, we support young women to reconnect with family as a pathway forward. We also understand that this is not always possible, and we work alongside each young person to explore other options and plan for a safe and stable future.

How we support young people

Support that is practical, personal,
and shaped around each young woman

Building Life Skills

We support young women to explore education, training, employment, and community opportunities, helping them build confidence and a sense of purpose.

Everyday Living Skills

From cooking meals to managing money, we work alongside young women to develop the practical skills needed for independent living.

Inclusive and Respectful Practice

We provide a culturally safe and inclusive environment that respects each young person's identity, background, and experiences.

Individualised Support

Every young person's journey is different. We connect them with the right services and supports to ensure they are getting what they need, when they need it.

Affordable Living

For those with an income, a small weekly contribution helps cover essentials like food, electricity, and internet — supporting a transition into independent living.
