About KYM

The Karinya Young Mums program supports young parents and pregnant young women aged 15–24 across Northern Tasmania.

We walk alongside young women through pregnancy and early parenthood, offering support from around 12 weeks of pregnancy and during the early years of their child’s life. This is a time of big change, and we are here to provide stability, encouragement and care as young families find their feet.

Support is centred around each young person and led by their goals. Through intensive case management and wrap-around support, we work alongside young women to build confidence, strengthen parenting and create a path forward that feels right for them and their child.

At Karinya, we know early support can make a lasting difference. Through safe, secure housing and personalised support, young families are given the space to grow, learn and move forward.

Homes are provided through HomesTas and managed by Karinya, creating a safe and supportive environment where young parents can focus on their goals, their wellbeing and their child’s development.

Practical, flexible support shaped
around each young person

Safe and Stable Housing

We provide short-term accommodation for up to two years, giving young families the time and stability they need to build strong foundations.

Education, Training and Employment

Young parents are supported to reconnect with education, explore training opportunities, and work toward employment goals.

Wrap-Around Support

Our case managers work closely with each young person, alongside other services, to ensure their goals, needs, and wellbeing remain at the centre of support.

Setting Up a Home

From signing a lease to setting up utilities and furnishing a home, we walk alongside young people through every step of establishing their tenancy.

Parenting and Life Skills

We support young parents to build confidence in parenting, while also developing everyday living skills that support independence and stability.

Planning for the Future

Planning for what comes next is part of the journey. Whether a young person stays for the full program or transitions earlier, we support them to move forward with confidence, stability and the right supports in place.
