Youth homelessness in Tasmania

The broader context

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2021 Census), young people aged 12–24 represent 25% of Tasmania's homeless population — above the national average of 23%.

This figure is likely higher than reported, as the census fails to capture young people sleeping rough or couch surfing. Despite this, election commitments and government funding have not kept pace with need.

Karinya advocates for expanded crisis accommodation funding, comprehensive long-term strategies to prevent youth homelessness, and increased investment in supportive housing.
